Introduction
When the demons were blessed by time, lord Vishnu advised all Gods to make a treaty with demons and do samudra manthan. He said, If any big work has to be done then one should make peace with the enemies also. It is certain that once the work is done, they can be treated like a snake or a rat. You all try to extract the nectar without any delay. By drinking it, even a dying creature becomes immortal.
First put all types of grass, straws, creepers and medicines in Kshir sagar. Then you all make the churn of Mandarachal and the rope of Vasuki serpent and do samudra manthan with my help. Gods! Have faith – the demons will get only labour and tribulation, but only you people will get the reward.Gods! Whatever the demons want from you, accept it. Everything is done peacefully, nothing is done by getting angry.
Giving this order, Lord Vishnu disappeared among them. After this the gods reached demon king Bali. Wise Indra, explaining in a very sweet voice, told King Bali all the things which the Lord himself had taught him. Then the gods and demons made a treaty and became friends and together they all started working hard for the samudra manthan.
After this, he uprooted Mandarachal with his power and carried it towards the sea shore. The gods and demons included Nagaraja Vasuki by promising him that he would also have a share in the nectar obtained from the churning of the ocean. After this, they wrapped the snake Vasuki in a neti-like net and started churning the ocean for the nectar with great enthusiasm and joy.
1.Poison
When they were doing the work of samudra manthan with the help of lord vishnu, there was great turmoil in the sea.First of all, a very fierce poison called halahal came out. That extremely fierce poison in every direction, up and down everywhere began to spread. There was no way to avoid this unbearable poison. Being terrified, all the living entities, including the creator, took shelter of Lord Shiva. Please protect us from this age-old poison that is burning the three worlds.Seeing this distress of the people, Lord Shiva, by his grace, felt great pain in his heart.
Lord Shiva, thus made a proposal to Goddess Sati and agreed to drink the poison. The goddess, who knew his influence, approved of this from the bottom of her heart. Lord Shiva is very merciful. By their power all living beings live. He lifted the sharp poison on his palm and devoured it.The poison showed influence on Lord Shiva, whose throat turned blue, but it became an ornament for Lord Shiva, who bestows all welfare on the subjects. While Lord Shiva was drinking poison, a little poison dripped from his hand, it was eaten by scorpions, snakes and other poisonous creatures and poisonous herbs.
2. Kamdhenu Cow
Thus when Lord Shiva drank the poison, the gods and demons were very pleased. They started samudra manthan again with renewed enthusiasm. Then the cow of desire appeared from the sea. She was the producer of the materials for the sacrifice. Therefore, in order to obtain holy ghee, milk, etc. useful for the sacrifice that leads to the Brahmaloka, the Brahma-vadi sages accepted it.
3. Ucheshrva Horse
Then came out a horse named Ucheshrva. He was as white as the moon. Bali expressed his desire to take it. So it was given to him.
4. Airawat Elephant
Then came the best elephant named Airawat. It had four large teeth, which surpassed the beauty of the brightly coloured Kailash.
5. Kaustubh Mani
Then a lotus gem called Kaustubh mani came out of the sea. Lord Vishnu wanted to take that jewel to wear on his heart.
6. Kalpvriksha
After this, the Kalpa tree, which adorns the heavenly world, came out. It fulfils the desires of the people by giving them whatever they desire standing below its shelter, just as it fulfils the desires of all on earth.
7. Rambha (Nymph)
After that the nymph Rambha appeared. She was dressed in beautiful clothes and wore gold necklaces around her neck. She gave happiness to the gods with her beautiful movements and luxurious appearance.
8. Goddess Lakshmi
After this, the idol of beauty, Goddess Lakshmi herself, appeared. Her beauty, generosity, youth, appearance and glory attracted everyone. Gods, demons, humans – all wanted to find them. She wanted to find an innocent and immortal man with all the good qualities,so that she could take his shelter and choose him. But she did not find any such man among them. There is one Lord Vishnu, all the auspicious qualities reside in them. So Lakshmi ji put that beautiful garland of new lotuses around the neck of the Lord.
9. Varuni Devi
After churning the ocean, Varuni Devi appeared in the form of a lotus-eyed girl. With God’s permission the demons took her away.
10. Dhanvantari
When the gods and demons churned the ocean even more with the desire for nectar, a very supernatural man appeared from it. He was actually a partial incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He became famous by the name of the originator of Ayurveda, Dhanvantari.
11. Nectar
When the demons looked at Dhanvantri and the pot filled with nectar in their hands, they quickly and forcibly snatched the pot of nectar. When the demons snatched away the pot full of nectar, the hearts of the gods were filled with sadness. Seeing their poor condition, the devotee-wishing God said – ‘Gods. You guys don’t be sorry. By my illusion, I create division among them and now make it your job.
A fight broke out among themselves. Those who were weak among them started opposing those strong demons who had snatched the Kalash in their hands. Lord Vishnu, who knows all the solutions, took the form of a very wonderful and indescribable woman named Mohini.
When they saw that a very beautiful woman was coming towards them, those people, fascinated by lust, asked her, we belonged to the same caste. Yet we all want the same thing, that is why there is a knot of jealousy and hatred in us. You distribute it impartially as per justice, so that there is no quarrel between us again. They laughed mysteriously and handed over the pot of nectar to Mohini.
God in the form of Mohini thought that demons are cruel by birth. Feeding them nectar would be a great injustice like feeding milk to snakes.God made separate rows of gods and demons and then made both of them sit in their respective groups. After captivating them with his gestures and sarcasm, he came to the gods sitting at a distance and started giving them the nectar to drink, which when drunk, destroys old age and death.
Conclusion
At the time when God was giving nectar to the gods, the demon Rahu came in the guise of the gods and sat among them and drank the nectar along with the gods. But immediately the moon and the sun exposed him. As soon as he gave the nectar to drink, God cut off his head with his sharp-edged disc. Due to lack of nectar, his torso fell down. But the head became immortal and Lord Brahma made it a ‘planet’. On the same day of the festival Rahu attacks the Moon and the Sun out of hatred to take revenge.Averse to it, the demons remain deprived of nectar even after working hard.
